The Engineers

Maya is a senior studying Systems Engineering and Organization & Human Resource Management. She joined EWB-WashU as a freshman and travelled to Ethiopia to help implement the Storm Water Drainage project in the winter of 2016. She joined Exec as Vice-President her sophomore year and later transitioned into being Co-President. In her free time, if you don’t find her in the outdoors, you’ll find her singing and playing her ukulele.

Caroline is a senior studying electrical engineering and computer science. She joined EWB-WashU as a freshman on the Guatemala Initiative.  That summer she traveled to Guatemala and has since served as Secretary.  She is excited about establishing new projects this year and is hoping to find a way to serve the local communities of St. Louis.  In her free time she tortures her room mates with the violin, climbs, and explores the many neighborhoods of our city!

Kara todd

Kara is a senior from Georgetown, Texas, majoring in Systems Engineering and minoring in Spanish. As project lead for the Ethiopia team, she is organizing the last monitoring and evaluation trip to Mekelle, Ethiopia. She is also leading the Fundraising Board as Vice President this semester. Outside of EWB, she works in the Gephardt Institute and is the treasurer of Lutheran Campus Ministry. When she’s not doing any of that, she’s probably convincing friends to go to concerts with her or exploring new restaurants, parks, and coffee shops in St. Louis.

Thomas Ellis

Thomas is a sophomore from St. Paul, Minnesota, majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in Managerial Economics. Currently, he serves as treasurer of EWB's Washington University chapter.Thomas has worked primarily on the administrative side to get both the Nicaragua and Uganda projects started. In his free time, he is a teaching assistant for CSE 260M and 247R. If he's not working, Thomas is probably playing video games or yelling at the Packers through the TV.

Emily ray

VP of public relations

Emily is a freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina studying Biomedical Engineering. As Public Relations Exec, she has taken on club and community outreach, advertising, and is working on connecting the WashU EWB Alumni network. Outside of engineering, Emily enjoys fly fishing, running, and works with organizations focused on international literacy. 

Kyle is a Sophomore studying Biomedical Engineering from Edina Minnesota. Kyle is the Nicaragua project lead, and has served on the WUGI Exec Team as professional engineering coordinator, the fundraising team, and traveled to Guatemala with WUGI the summer of his Freshman Year. Kyle also represents the undergraduate engineering school on the Global Health Student Advisory Committee and Washington University as the national representative to the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. Kyle is also passionate skier who volunteers during the brief Missouri winter with DASA, helping teach people with disabilities how to ski.

Local Project Co Lead

Jake is a junior from Dallas, Texas, pursuing a BS/MS in mechanical engineering. As a co-lead on the St. Louis Local Project, he is currently looking into developing safer commuting routes for younger students to walk/bike to school. Besides EWB, he conducts research on traumatic brain injury, works in a startup to prevent urinary tract infections, and is on the executive board for Sling Health, a medical technology incubator.

ELise ashley

Local Project Co Lead

Elise is a junior from Mission Viejo, California, majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in energy engineering and psychology. She is currently co-leading the Local Project. She joined EWB as a freshman in the Ethiopia project, and now is excited to turn her attention to the St. Louis community. Outside of EWB, she is usually playing music, working on sets for the school’s theater productions, or dragging her friends on camping trips.

Payal Hukeri

Payal is a sophomore from St. Louis and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Energy Engineering. She is currently the Project Lead for the Uganda Project and was previously VP of Public Relations. Outside of EWB, Payal is involved in Swim Club and SWE. She also enjoys traveling, reading and binge-watching tv shows.
